Sometimes it’s nice to know that people are out there looking out for us. For example, the students at North Carolina State University. They’ve been working on a new product to detect date rape drugs, and it’s one of those “why the hell didn’t I think of that” ideas.

The new nail polish line called Undercover Colours, will be able to detect GHB, Rohypnol and Xanax – aka the date rape drugs. How? Well, the nail polish will change colors, alerting the potential victim before ever sipping the offered drink.

Ankesh Madan, Stephen Gray, Tyler Confrey-Maloney and Tasso Von Windheim are the whiz kids behind the nail polish. Although it’s not yet ready for mass production, it will be soon, and seed money is already being invested.

And the clever new product doesn’t come a moment too soon. Sexual assault is committed at a rate of every two minutes in America, and a bunch of those assaults stem from date rape drugs.

The Office on Women’s Health cautions women to never share drinks, and never drink from open containers which may have been tainted. On top of that – the agency warns that some of the date rape drugs may have a salty aftertaste. So, basically, there are a lot of scumbags out there, but this nail polish will help you weed them out. Plus, if you find out somebody’s trying to drug you, you can use those freshly painted nails to scratch their loser eyes out.
