Arik Gilbert, a football player at Marietta, has won the Gatorade Player of the Year award. Gilbert beat out 1 million other players to become the first player in Georgia to win the award.
Gilbert was named Region 3 Offensive Player of the Year as a junior. He was ranked as the nation’s No. 1 tight end prospect in the Class of 2020 by ESPN and Rivals. He was ranked No. 11 in the country, regardless of position, by Rivals. Gilbert is a two-time all-state honoree and was selected to play in 2020 All-American Bowl.
Marietta won the state championship this season.
The Falcons, Matt Ryan, was there to give Gilbert the award.
