We love our ECHL Atlanta Gladiators in Gwinette but there may be hope for a Georgia based NHL Team soon!
It was 2011 when our Atlanta Thrashers were sold and moved to Winnipeg (and then Phoenix) and 1980 when we lost our Atlanta Flames. Now, Vernon Krause, CEO of Alpharetta-based Krause Auto Group, is pitching to build a massive 750,000-square-foot arena in Forsyth County as part of a huge entertainment complex, much like The Battery in Cobb County, called The Gathering at South Forsyth.
According to the press release, it would be located on about 100 acres at Ronald Reagan Boulevard and Union Hill Road, near the Halcyon development off Ga. 400. Possibly including 1.6 million square feet of commercial and retail space, an arena, community center, hotel rooms and housing.
The development team is hoping this will help lure a National Hockey League team back to Georgia with the $1 billion arena but could still move forward without a deal.
Forsyth is one of the fastest-growing counties in the United States. Its population ballooned 43% between 2010 and 2020, according to U.S. Census data, eclipsing 251,000 residents according to The Atlanta Business Chronicle. Read more here
