KRISTEN'S STORY - WINNER

MOM'S INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGES ON PENCILS ENCOURAGES CLASS

When Beaumont, Texas elementary school teacher Amanda Cox was running low on pencils, she asked her students to share any extras they had in their desks. One of her kids asked if he could keep the pencils his mom gave him, but then decided to share and when Cox began to sharpen them, she realized the mom had written positive messages on each pencil.

The student’s mother had printed encouraging notes on the pencils, including, “You are so talented,” “This will be a great year,” “You are creative,” and “Never give up.” Cox shared the story on Facebook, explaining, “This probably took his mom a few minutes to do, yet it lit up his whole day at school.” Her post has gone viral and both parents and teachers have been touched by the lesson.

“THESE are the things that we should be reminding our kids (both parents AND teachers),” Cox writes. “Imagine the look on a child’s face when they are reminded that they are important, talented, loved, knowledgeable and so much more.”
