Maren Morris & Brandi Carlile Debut New Duet 'Common' Onstage

Over the weekend, Brandi Carlile's inaugural "Girls Just Wanna Weekend" festival took place in Riviera Maya, Mexico and the all-female sets saw the festival owner and Maren Morris debut a new duet called "Common."

As one of the many performances from the Indigo Girls, Mavis Staples and more, "Common" saw the pair trade lines about how much they are alike. "We've got way too much in common/ So what's the point in hiding/ We've got way too many problems/ If I'm being honest I don't know where God is/ We've got way too much in common," they offered up the crowd in the chorus. Prior to the number, Morris revealed that the song is set for release prior to this weekend's Grammy Awards, where she's up for five awards, so we're expecting a Friday drop date for the new duet.

Carlile and Morris first performed with one another at CMT's Artists of the Year in October 2018, where the duo paid homage to the late, great Aretha Franklin with a cover of "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman."

"The first week I moved to Nashville, I went to Grimey’s record store and Brandi had just released her album Bear Creek. It was the first thing I saw and picked it up. It was in my car for the next three years,” Morris previously told Rolling Stone of her appreciation for Carlile. “When I met Brandi, I told her I bought your album and I was obsessed with you, and now we're duetting. It’s so cool to see her widely recognized on the world stage with all these Grammy nominations. She’s Americana — that’s just a tag she’s been given — but she is so much more than that, and I am glad the world is going to know her.”
