The Eastside Trail of the Atlanta Beltine has been a popular destination for Atlanta runners and walkers for seven years now, but lack of lighting made it not as safe and difficult to use after dark. After years of fund raising and struggles for approval,this week signs ofnew lighting structures began to appear! Beltline officials have posted images on Facebook of thefoundations for the light fixtures being installed every 90 feet between Monroe Drive, in Midtown, and Irwin Street, in Old Fourth Ward and Inman Park.

Officials have also announced that construction of the SouthsideTrail will begin Jannuary 22. Beltline CEO Clyde Higgs wrote in a blog post that "this first phase—now called Southside Trail-West—will run “about a mile from the southern terminus (near Capitol View Apartments) of the Westside Trail to Pittsburgh Yards on University Avenue.”
