Trisha Yearwood jumped at the chance to take part in the âBetty White Challenge,â and was âblown awayâ to exceed her $30,000 goal. The widespread social media challenge aimed to honor the late, iconic actress by donating to a cause she cared about: helping animals.
White, who died on New Years Eve at age 99, was a well-known animal lover, so fans everywhere opted to remember her on what would have been her 100th birthday by donating to local animal shelters. Yearwood stepped up to encourage donations to Dottieâs Yard Fund at the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. Yearwood hosted a virtual fundraiser in Whiteâs honor, pledging to match up to $10,000 in donations. It wasnât long before Yearwood proudly announced in a tweet: âIâm blown away! Weâve already reached our goal of $30,000+, but letâs keep this love flowing!! Thank you all so much!! xoâ
Dottieâs Yard Fund was established in 2021, inspired by one of Yearwoodâs and Garth Brooksâ dogs. Dottie died in 2016 at age 14, and she was âone of the best dogs Iâve ever had the privilege of knowing. Now, Dottieâs legacy will live on and she will continue to help dogs and cats all over the country.â Gearing up for the virtual fundraiser, Yearwood encouraged that even âa gift as little as $5 can make a world of difference.â She noted a quote from White: âAnimals are near and dear to my heart, and Iâve devoted my life to trying to improve their lives.â
