Trisha Yearwood jumped at the chance to take part in the “Betty White Challenge,” and was “blown away” to exceed her $30,000 goal. The widespread social media challenge aimed to honor the late, iconic actress by donating to a cause she cared about: helping animals.

White, who died on New Years Eve at age 99, was a well-known animal lover, so fans everywhere opted to remember her on what would have been her 100th birthday by donating to local animal shelters. Yearwood stepped up to encourage donations to Dottie’s Yard Fund at the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. Yearwood hosted a virtual fundraiser in White’s honor, pledging to match up to $10,000 in donations. It wasn’t long before Yearwood proudly announced in a tweet: “I’m blown away! We’ve already reached our goal of $30,000+, but let’s keep this love flowing!! Thank you all so much!! xo”

Dottie’s Yard Fund was established in 2021, inspired by one of Yearwood’s and Garth Brooks’ dogs. Dottie died in 2016 at age 14, and she was “one of the best dogs I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. Now, Dottie’s legacy will live on and she will continue to help dogs and cats all over the country.” Gearing up for the virtual fundraiser, Yearwood encouraged that even “a gift as little as $5 can make a world of difference.” She noted a quote from White: “Animals are near and dear to my heart, and I’ve devoted my life to trying to improve their lives.”
