TMSG: Cheerleader Jumps Off Parade Float to Save Choking Boy's Life

17-year-old Texas high school cheerleader Tyra Winters is being credited for rescuing a choking 2-year-old boy.

Winters was sitting on a float in their homecoming parade and waving to the crowd when she saw a woman calling for help for her toddler. She saw the boy, Clarke, choking on a piece of candy and turning purple. The boy's mother was trying to find anyone to help her son but she told NBC affiliate KXAS, she was so distraught, she couldn't speak.

That's when Winters ran over off the float and grabbed the kid. She gave him three back thrusts and Clarke spit up the candy. The mother admitted to KXAS that she was really taken aback by everything saying "to feel so useless as a mother was the most terrifying thing in my life."

According to KXAS, Winters hopes to be a pediatric surgeon in the future, and has been trained in CPY and the Heimlich maneuver because her mother runs a group home for foster children.
