TMSG: School Rolling Out Mobile Feeding Stations For Students Amid Virus

School districts are stepping up across the country to help their students get nutritious meals despite the schools being out for the foreseeable future due to the coronavirus.

Debbie Johnson and Khawndice Colley work for Indian River County school district in Vero Beach, Florida. They have set a mission for the next two weeks to make sure their kids are fed.

They're driving around mobile cafes, school buses made into food delivery buses, to feed the kids over breakfast and lunch for the next two weeks at 12 different locations throughout the county. The mobile cafes are originally part of the summer feeding program, but with the coronavirus situation, they pushed them into service a little early.

Johnson shared with WPTV, “I feel an obligation, and no matter what, we want to see the kids fed." Scott Simpson, the principal at Osceola Magnet School, wants to make sure his families know about the service, and show what other agencies can do to help if it's a challenge to get kids to the sites. If you live in the area, their feeding schedule is here.
