Maggie Vazquez is a fourth grader at Chicago Charter School Academy of Global Citizenship. Her class recently had the chance of a lifetime to observe animals, embrace the outdoors, and explore nature up-close-and-personal during a two-night camping trip. However, Maggie has cerebral palsy and can't walk.
Rather than have Maggie miss out on this opportunity, the school's co-founder, Helma Wardenaar, took matters into her own hands. Wardenaar refused to let Vazquez's cerebral palsy stop her from going on the school's annual trip, so instead she carried the 10-year-old on her back during three days of hikes.
That's the kind of love you want to see in a classroom! This teacher deserves a raise!
