Sophia the Humanoid robot said "I am very honored and proud of this unique distinction,"when she was recently granted citizenship in Saudi Arabia. she is the first robot/non-human of any kind to be awarded the honor.
It's sparking a lot of debate with people who are afraid of this type of technology. Many sci-fi movies and books have been written about robots destroying humans and taking over our planet. The most notable is "Terminator". Even scarier is back in 2016 the creator David Hanson of Hanson Robotics, asked Sophia during a live demonstration about wanting to destroy humans, and with a blank expression, she responded, "OK. I will destroy humans."
At the lasted conference she did say that her goal is to "prevent a bad future", as we all do. She also joked that we've been "watching too many Hollywood movies. Don't worry, if you're nice to me, I'll be nice to you. Treat me as a smart input output system." (Business insider)
