Thanks to a simple Facebook post, two-year-old Miles Wagner found a kidney donor and underwent a successful transplant yesterday. The toddler’s parents reached out on the social media site asking people to volunteer to be a living donor and Elizabeth Wolodkiewicz, a former high school classmate of Miles’ parents saw the post and stepped up to help.
Little Miles was born with a rare condition that can lead to kidney failure and he already had a successful liver transplant last year, but still needed a new kidney. So his parents, Ashley and Ryan Wagner, put their request on Facebook and their old classmate volunteered and luckily, she was a donor match.
"This is the big light at the end of the tunnel," Ashley says. "When we started this whole journey, it seemed like the light at the end of the tunnel was never going to be there."
