During the second round of the French Open, but we may already seen the most memorable moment of the this year’s tournament at Roland Garros.
And it took place yesterday in the second-round match between Juan Martin del Potro and opponent, Nico Almagro.
The two were tied one set apiece in the third round when Almagro slid on the clay and pulled up with an injury to his knee—the exact same type of injury that caused him to withdraw from his match against Rafael Nadal last month in Rome. And moments after hobbling on the baseline, Almagro collapsed to the court in tears knowing he would again have to withdraw from the tournament.
And that’s when del Potro—a man any tennis fan knows what it's like to deal with ongoing injuries and pain—rushed to comfort the 31-year-old Almagro.
He helped him to the sideline before embracing his fellow player and for a moment shared his pain.
