Sharon Gallo-Dunn, had to take a leave of absence from teaching when she was diagnosed with colon cancer nearly two years ago. Sharon had been a 2nd grade teacher at Shawsheen Elementary School in Wilmington, Mass for over 20 years. During her leave which included surgery and 12 rounds of chemo, she would still stop by her classroom and check on her kids. One day she noticed a student buy the name of Brodie was absent. Turns out Brodie had just been diagnosed with stage 3 Burkitt lymphoma. Brodie also had to undergo surgery and multiple rounds of chemo for his cancer and was going to miss the rest of the school year. When his teacher, Sharon, found out about this she decided to personally tutor Brodie so he wouldn’t fall behind. Sharon and Brodie are both now done with their cancer treatments. Brodie will be enter ingfourth-grade next year and Sharon will be the second-grade teacher for Brodie’s younger brother, Carter. (abcnews)
