When 94-year-old Richard Griffin parked his motorized tricycle outside a St. Petersburg, Florida CVS for a minute to run inside to get eye drops from the pharmacy, someone had the nerve to steal it. The senior citizen doesn’t drive, so his mode of transportation had been taken away.
But once the community heard the story, people wanted to help Griffin get his wheels back. The St. Petersburg Police Department received 43 checks ranging from $50 to $500, for a grand total of $2,445 in donations. And Griffin’s new ride came with a lock, so he can make a pharmacy run without fear of this one being stolen.
Griffin is delighted with his new tricycle and thankful for the support of the community. “How happy can one person get?” he asks with a smile. “Just happy!”
