Facebook is launching software designed to stop people from killing themselves.
The social media giant is now using artificial intelligence technology that will scan all posts for patterns of suicidal thoughts. When it detects them, it will send mental health resources to the user who is at risk or their friends, or it will contact first responders.
Facebook says, by using AI to flag posts that could be danger signs to human moderators instead of waiting for user reports, it can cut down on how long it takes to send help.
The move is in response to an alarming amount of incidents using Facebook Live.
