The Legal Age To Get Married In Georgia Might Change

Can I have the honor of loving you forever?

A Republican lawmaker is looking to raise the minimum age to get married in Georgia. You may or may not know that the current age is 16 with parental consent. Rep. Andrew Welch from McDonough would like to raise the age to 17, with some caveats. The bill would not only raise the age to 17, it also would require them to complete at least six hours of premarital education, including instruction on conflict management, communication skills, financial responsibilities and parenting responsibilities. Several states have made changes to their minimum ages but only two have banned marriage, of any kind, under 18, Delaware and New Jersey.

We talked about it this morning and our "highly ineffective survey" brought mixed reviews.
