Couple Remarries After Husband With Dementia Forgets First Wedding

Concept Of Memory Loss

Congratulations to Bill and Anne Duncan. They just got married…for the second time. They actually wed for the first time 12 years ago. They’ve been together for 18 years. For Bill, he was marrying his girlfriend. You see, Bill has dementia. He’s forgotten important moments from his life. He’s forgotten that Anne is his wife.

So he proposed to his wife.Anne accepted and the pair renewed their wedding vows last week at their home. They had been to a family member’s wedding earlier in the month and it touched Bill.So he asked Anne when the two of them would be walking up the aisle together. He told Anne he wanted to with her forever. She thought he would forget, but he mentioned it again the next day.

So Anne started planning the ceremony. And Bill asked her about it every single day leading up to it.Their friends helped decorate and made a wedding cake.Their daughter Andrea convinced Anne to buy a white dress for their big day.And the couple renewed their vows surrounded by friends and family.

Bill was diagnosed with dementia in 2010 and Anne has since cared for her husband, who now struggles to talk. But Anne says that Bill has been happy and affectionate ever since their ceremony. His displays of affection have become scarce, so to have this love radiating from him has been a blessing.
