Teen Cancer Survivor Awarded Full-Ride Scholarship

Over the past year, 18-year-old Jaime Gamez of Avondale, Arizona, battled cancer -- and beat it.

Through all of it, Make-A-Wish was working on fulfilling Jaime's wish. He didn't ask for a special trip or to meet a celebrity. Instead, his ask was a wish for self-improvement. He just wanted to go to college at the Universal Technical Institute where he could study to be a diesel technician.

To celebrate and honor Jaime for his determination, Make-A-Wish Arizona surprised him with a full-ride scholarship to UTI.

This fall, he starts the next chapter of his life at UTI's Avondale campus just west of where he lives. But thanks to several sponsors and the Make-A-Wish foundation, he'll get to do it without the worry or stress of the financial burden of paying for his education. It would have cost him tens of thousands of dollars.

Jaime has loved big rigs since he was a little kid. Now he'll have the chance to build them.
