Today would have been my sweet friend Amber Roberts' 19th birthday but cancer took her from us last year. Chick-fil-A in her home town of Fairburn is remembering her today.
You can sop by Chick-fil-A at 7810 Senoia Road between 5pm and 7pm today, mention her name when you place your order and they will make a donation to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
Amber was diagnosed February 7, 2017 with Anaplastic Astrocytoma, is a rare malignant brain tumor. She was 17 years old and looking forward to attending Georgia Tech and studying biology. A little over a year later, she lost her battle on February 28, 2018.
But in that short year, Amber became a STAR with the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. The Foundation assisted her and her family and Amber shined! I met Amber just a few months after she had been diagnosed. She instantly impressed me with her sweet smile and deep intellect. You just knew by talking to her that this young woman could go on to become a Nobel Prize winner if she wanted!
We both participated in the PBTF Couture For Kids Fashion show that fall at Tootsie's in Buckhead. Now, I know that I talk to millions of people when I am on the radio and I have no problem standing on a stage in front of thousands at a concert, but walking down a runway in a fashion show apparently is my Kryptonite!
I was so nervous before walking the runway that I thought I would be sick. It was Amber who noticed me hyperventilating backstage and calmed me down. She gave me courage and talked me through it, all while SHE was in the battle of her life. Five months later she was gone.
I will never forget her and she will always be in my heart. If you aren't near Fairburn or can't stop by today, you can donate to PBTF by clicking here.
