Food Distributions in Atlanta Area This Weekend

1 in 8 Georgians is suffering from food insecurities since the beginning of the pandemic - 1 in 6 of those are children. The need for food is 300% greater now than this time last year. Here are two list for you. Places where you can donate and volunteer to help, and a list of many ways you can get food if you are in need.

FOOD DRIVE:

Alpharetta Community Charity Food Drive: Friday November 20 -12-5 PM - collecting non-perishable food items to help feed families in our community that have fallen on difficult times. The Donation Drive Will Act As A DRIVE-THRU, CONTACT FREE! 

FREE FOOD GIVEAWAYS:

Soldiers’ Angels Food for Veterans: Friday November 20 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Atlanta VA Arcadia Clinic, 250 North Arcadia Avenue, Decatur, Ga. 30030.

Each recipient will receive a turkey and a box containing 75 to 100 pounds of food. Candy and select sweet treats also will be provided courtesy of the Soldiers’ Angels Treats for Troops Program.

Veterans interested in the Nov. 20 food assistance distribution must preregister by visiting www.soldiersangels.org/atlanta.

Clarkston Community Center pre-Thanksgiving food distribution: Saturday November 21 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Bags of food at Clarkston Community Center’s food distribution will include pasta, canned goods (green beans, corn), pasta sauce and evaporated milk.

Dekalb County Government Food Giveaway: Saturday November 21 10 am - until done - Dekalb Co. partners with Wal-Mart and others to give 2,500 DeKalb residents one 20-pound box of fruit and vegetables and a $20 gift card for ham or turkey along with COVID care baskets on a first come, first served basis.

Locations: 2817 Clifton Springs Rd. in Decatur (Buck Godfrey Stadium), 3789 Memorial College Ave. in Clarkston (James R. Hallford Stadium) and 6400 Woodrow Rd. in Stonecrest (New Birth Missionary Baptist Church)

East Point Turkey Giveaway: Saturday November 21 - 9 am until supplies gone - The City of East Point will giveaway 700 turkeys, 400 fresh produce gift cards valued at $25 each, and more than 700 masks and hand sanitizers on a first come, first served basis. It’s a drive-thru, safe and socially distant event. It is only open to East Point residents who can show proof of residency.

Food Distribution in Duluth: Saturday November 21 - 9 am until supplies gone - A.R.K Food and Family Services grocery giveaway. A contactless, drive-thru event held for residents in the Duluth area. They are asking anyone coming to please remain in their cars at all times.

Ray of Hope Food Giveaway: Saturday November 21 - 10 a.m. - 12 p.m - Ray of Hope Christian Church distributes food to the community on Saturday. This is a drive-thru event, with food given out to those in need on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Turkey Giveaway in Douglas County: Saturday November 21 - 10 a.m. - Several groups and Douglas County Commissioner Tarenia Carthan team up for a turkey giveaway also featuring free PPE equipment and free COVID-19 testing (you need to register for the tests)

Location: 8700 Hospital Dr. in Douglasville (Douglas Co. Courthouse)

Comfort and Care Food Giveaway: Saturday November 21 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. - Atlanta based Caring for Others annual Thanksgiving giveaway event. The event is a drive-thru distribution of fresh turkeys, produce, and new comforters and linens for the first 1,200 families to sign up and register.

Victory Food Pantry: Saturday November 21 - 11 a.m. - until supplies run out - Dekalb Commissioner Steve Bradshaw teams up with First African CDC/ YOUR Community Food Pantry to provide drive-thru food and health supplies to over 800 families in need.

Thanksgiving Food Giveaway: Saturday November 21 - 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.The City of South Fulton partners with several other groups for the city’s first Thanksgiving food giveaway for those with food insecurity. You mustregisterfor this event.

Location: 4255 Will Lee Rd. in College Park (Welcome All Park)

Drive-thru Food Giveaway: Saturday November 21 - 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. - Excel church holds their annual groceries to go giveaway before the holidays. This is a drive-thru event.
