A Florida man just recieved a $37,500 payout from the city of Orlando, FL because he was arrested over donut residue. No....REALLY!
64-year-old Daniel Rushing was driving a friend from church home when he was pulled over for speeding. After Orlando Officer Shelby Riggs-Hopkins noticed a crystal like substance on his floor board, he continuously questioned Rushing about what it was. Rushing told them "I've never even smoked a cigarette". He even said "That's glaze from a Krispy Kreme doughnut!"
Riggs-Hopkins didn't have a field test for the substance but arrested Rushing for possession of meth and possession of a fire arm while having a controlled substance. Rushing spent the next 10 hours in jail.
When lab tests came back, it was found that the "crystal substance" was not a controlled substance. It was actually Krispy Kreme remnants. (NPR)
Rushing later filed a lawsuit against the department and was just awarded $37,500, which can buy a lot of Krispy Kreme!
I'm shocked a police officer couldn't immediately identify donuts! I'm just saying... I feel like they have a bit of expertise in that department. In all honesty though, eating enough of those donuts is about like taking meth. I'm not even sure which is healthier.
