Coffee Shop Employee And Babysitter Makes The U.S. Olympic Marathon Team

U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Marathon

Molly Seidel has never run a professional marathon before, but took leave from her coffee shop to try it out in Atlanta.... AND GOT 2nd PLACE!!

On a normal week, Seidel is working 2 jobs in Boston. One is at a coffer shop in Boston, the other is babysitting. The 25-year-old had never run a professional marathon before coming to the Olympic trials in Atlanta on Saturday. She was a stand out athlete at Notre Dame, where she graduated but only ran shorter distance races, like 5,000- and 10,000-meter races. She had won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championship in 2011 and has four N.C.A.A. titles, but this is a new high for her

Going in, she just wanted to finish strong with a good time, she had no idea she'd end up second place and winning $65,000 and a spot on the U.S. Olympic team for 2020 in Tokyo.

“I had no idea what this was going to be like,” she told the NY Times, after the race on Saturday. “I didn’t want to oversell it and put way too much pressure on, knowing how competitive the field was going to be. But talking with my coach, I didn’t want to phone it in just because it was my first one.”

WOW! I've run out of excuses for life now. This makes me wanna go crush a massive goal I have in life right now!
