What's your biggest fear? Is it the same as the rest of our state?

We all have some phobias about certain things. For me it’s spiders. Some people hate snakes, bears or even the outdoors. Some phobias are more common in certain parts of the country than others. Allaboutcats.com found the biggest fears/phobias in each state.

They based research on Google search metrics to see what people are scared of. Interestingly enough, a phobia most of us can't even pronounce is the most common. Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia, a fear of long words, appeared for 18 states, including Alaska, California, Colorado and Florida.

Second in line was Philophobia, a fear of falling in love and getting into relationships, the most common fear in 11 states, including Georgia, Hawaii, Arkansas, and more.

Nine states, including Illinois, Kansas and Mississippi, suffer from Somniphobia, the fear surrounding the thought of going to bed. I didn't even know this was a thing. I mean I've seen 'Nightmare on Elm Street' but what are they afraid of?

Overall, the most common fear in the world is Agoraphobia, the fear of public spaces, crowds. 61.67% of all countries showed this as their most searched for phobia.

A couple of odd fears that showed up on the lists:

38% of the world - Megalophobia, fear of large things, such as buildings, statues, and vehicles. Megalophobia can also extend to large animals like elephants or whales and large open spaces like stadiums or theatres. People with megalophobia generally fear more than one kind of large object.

34% of the world - Ombrophobia is the fear of rain and is the second-highest reported unusual phobia on our list. Younger children are known to suffer from ombrophobia more so than adults. Some might fear weather conditions that accompany heavy rain and so this phobia can often be accompanied by several weather-related phobias such as the fear of lightning and thunder, fog, or flooding, and also the fear of drowning.

Ephebiphobia – fear of teenagers, common in Arizona, and Indiana.
