It's a new era for Twitter, as the new owner will take the reigns soon. Tesla owner Elon Musk offered up $44 Billion for the social media platform to be the sole owner. He has criticized the app for censoring people views and speech when it didn't agree with a certain agenda. He hopes to make the platform an open forum for people to speak on all sides of an issue.
Elon tweeted: "I hope that even my worst critics remain on Twitter, because that is what free speech means"
Musk said in a statement, “Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated. Twitter has tremendous potential — I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it.”
Soon I'm sure your car will be able to Tweet and tweets in space will be a thing! As Elon is also owner of Space X and Tesla too. I've always wanted to know what's on my cars mind.
Elon is hoping to turn the business around as Twitter has been failing for many years now. The company has struggled to gain new users . Plus, advertising business, which is the main way Twitter makes revenue, has been inconsistent. For the last eight of 10 years Twitter hasn't turned a profit.
Some organizations and people are concerned about his control of the platform. “Without any conditions for Musk to purchase Twitter, the platform’s community standards and recourse to ban users who violate those standards, Twitter could set a dangerous precedent for other social media companies to follow,” said UltraViolet's director Bridget Todd. “This is a massively slippery slope.” UltraViolet is a women's rights organization.
