Comedy has apparently become a contact sport these days. Dave Chappelle got tackled while performing at The Hollywood Bowl.

Chappelle was doing his routine in L.A. when out of nowhere someone ran on stage and tried tackling him and assaulting him. Jumping from the backstage to his rescue was Oscar winning actor Jamie Foxx. It was caught on camera from an audience member. Chapelle was ok after the attack and even joked, “It was a trans man.” He has been criticized over the years for remarks he's made about the LGBTQ community.

When the suspect was subdued police found a replica gun and a knife on him. This could've been very dangerous for Chappelle.

Chappelle's personal security cleared the Hollywood Bowl stage, and Chappelle finished out the show. Chris Rock, who is no strangers to being attacked on stage, was also backstage and later asked Chappelle, "Was that Will Smith?

The attacker was arrested and take by ambulance to the local hospital to be evaluated and treat his injuries. The attacker has been identified as 23-year-old Isaiah Lee. His motive is not yet known.

During the video of the curtain call, Chappelle spoke more about the incident and then called Jamie Foxx to the stage.

“Whenever you’re in trouble, Jamie Foxx will show up in a sheriff’s hat,” Chappelle said.
