Such a terrible tragedy happened last night in Cobb County when 2 officers where shot while serving a warrant. We are mourning with the entire police community and Atlanta metro with the loss of these great men and heroes.

Sheriff Craig Owens said his force is left "heartbroken" by the loss of these great officers. Friends, Father's, sons, they meant so much to so many.

The officers where serving a warrant around 7:45pm when they were fired upon by two suspects. The officers both sustained life ending injuries in the shootout, which caused a standoff with the suspects. Both were eventually apprehended without further incident.

"We lost two great deputies," Sheriff Owens said Friday during a news conference on 11 Alive. "They were outstanding men, men of character and integrity."

Owens named 42-year-old Jonathan Koleski (Army veteran) as one of the officers who died. Also, Marshall Ervin Jr., 38, succumbed to his injuries as well. He was a Dad of two kids.

These men were decorated and honorable officers. All over a minor warrant for failure to appear for a court hearing for a "theft by deception" charge.

Christopher Cook and Christopher Golden were denied bail and are awaiting trial. MORE DETAILS HERE

Governor Kemp shared his condolences on twitter:

Funds are being set up to help the Deputies families and create college funds for the kids. We will update when we get the details on how to help.
