When Monica and Dean Berckenhoff tied the knot in Texas recently, they were surprised with an incredible wedding gift: getting to hear their late son’s heart beating once more. The couple’s oldest son, Colton, passed away suddenly in 2012 when he was 11 and they donated his organs.
The man who received his heart, his name is Travis… came to the ceremony with a stethoscope so they could hear it.It was an emotional moment for the couple and it was set up by Monica’s sister, Amanda McDonald.
It was a dream come true for the Berckenhoffs, as well as Travis, who says he’s been waiting for this for a long time.
“It’s been seven years and it’s something we’ve always wanted,” Monica explains. “Closure,” Dean adds, “I heard his heart.”
