Mary Newberry, a former bus driver in Gilmer, has been arrested after going back to the bus building and threatening the director, presumably who fired her, with a gun. Video shows Newberry being tackled to the ground by the director as others came to his aid. The Gilmer County School District described Newberry as a "disgruntled employee at the time of the incident" in a message it released. Clear Creek Middle School was placed on lockdown. The school district did the lockdown as a precaution.
Newberry is charged with aggravated assault, carrying a weapon in a school safety zone, pointing or aiming a gun at another, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime, simple battery, loitering and criminal attempt to commit a felony.
