How 4/20 Day Got Its Name

IT’S 4/20 Day (pronounced four-twenty). A day that 44% of American cannabis consumers believe should be recognized as a national holiday.

Get this…25% of Americans now consume cannabis -- or have tried some form of it in the last year. That number is up a staggering 56% since 2018.

There are a lot of theories on how the day got its name. The most credible story traces 4/20 to a California high school in 1971.There were five students who would meet at 4:20 p.m. to "partake". They chose that specific time because extracurricular activities had usually ended by then. This group became known as the “Waldos” because they met at a wall. They would say “420” to each other as code for marijuana.
