Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce from her husband Brandon Blackstock in June of 2020 citing "irreconcilable differences." The couple had been married for seven years. Some would say this has been a nasty divorce, but it's important to point out that both Kelly and Brandon are on the same page about doing what is best for their children. The issues that seem to be hard for the two to settle involves money. Obviously there is spousal and child support to settle - Brandon is requesting over $5 million in spousal and child support despite Kelly having primary custody of their kids. In addition, Kelly has accused Brandon and his father of defrauding her of millions while they managed her career through Starstruck Entertainment.
According to court documents, Kelly has filed a legal motion to have herself declared single. Why legally single? It makes you think that maybe Kelly wants to be able to date again. Nope. Not at all. She said on her talk show that the only person she wants to date right now is herself. So why is she asking the court to declare a "legally single" status? If this is granted, it means Kelly will be considered single while she and Brandon work through the final issues of their divorce proceedings (basically money) at a later trial date.
In a recent court filing, Kelly stated that she and Brandon "both deserve the opportunity to build a new life.” She also claimed that she has made "good faith efforts to settle" the financial disputes she and Brandon have. In that same court filing, Kelly said that Brandon Blackstock and his attorneys "have no intention of reaching a global settlement of this matter anytime soon."
Basically, Kelly is ready to start rebuilding her life .And she'd like to do that on her own. It's hard to do after a divorce. Even harder when your divorce is being drug out and the details basically revolve around money. If she's legally single, she can begin to build her new solo life. The details regarding money could be settled in a court hearing at a later date. And hopefully, even those proceedings could be over sooner rather than later. In the court paperwork, the court issued a notice encouraging both Kelly and Brandon to get together to settle those issues as soon as possible.
Kelly is one of America's sweethearts .We've loved her since American Idol. She's navigated her public divorce respectfully with her children remaining her number one priority.
