Braves Catcher Brian McCann Retires After Braves Heartbreaking Loss

The Atlanta Braves lost a heart breaker to the St. Louis Cardinals at Sun Trust Park Wednesday night in the NLDS. The 13-1 loss had a lot of moments for the record books, not in the Braves favor. It's the first time the Braves have allowed 10 plus runs in the first inning since 1925. The 10 runs scored by the Cardinals in the first inning also was the most runs in a first inning in MLB playoff history and tied the most runs in ANY post season inning of all time.

All of that was brutal for Braves fans, and then immediately after the game we got the news....our super-star, hometown Georgia boy catcher Brian McCann announced his retirement.

This is it for me," the 35-year-old told reporters in the locker room, "I'm going to go home and be a dad and play with those kids." He said he had known he would hang it up for about a month and a half.

The Duluth High School grad played college ball for Alabama and began his MLB career in 2005 with the Braves. The Georgia native spent 10 of his 15 years of his career in a Braves uniform. He was named an All-Star seven times while in Atlanta.

He played for the Yankees and he won a world series with the Houston Astros but then he came back home to Atlanta to finish his career.

He's a six-time Silver Slugger winner. He had 10 seasons with 20 or more home runs. He wraps things up with a lifetime .262/.337/.452 batting line, 282 home runs, 1018 RBIs, 742 runs scored and 294 doubles.

He loves country music, he is a super nice guy and is my favorite BRAVES player! (Thank you Cole Swindell for introducing me to him!)

I guess I will now spend this off season trying to figure out which current player will step up to be my new favorite!

B-Mac, thank you for all the years of great baseball and thank you for coming home to let us enjoy your final season in baseball as an Atlanta Brave! Chop on my friend and enjoy retirement...you earned it!
